Hi, I'm Alfreda Liu!
I am an interaction design undergraduate whose work is shaped by personal experience, reflection, and a strong sense of responsibility toward real people and real problems. My interest in design stems not only from aesthetics but also from instances in which design truly serves a purpose, such as helping someone navigate complexity, reduce uncertainty, or provide support in trying circumstances.
Throughout my journey, I have realized that the moments I feel most fulfilled are when my work directly helps others solve concrete problems. This insight has led to a clear set of values guiding my practice: usefulness, reliability, effectiveness, and social responsibility. I am particularly motivated by transforming complex systems into clear, step-by-step experiences that people can understand and trust.
Creating my first emergency medical application, which was motivated by actual family experiences and bolstered by interviews with other families, was one of the most significant turning points. This process revealed how unclear systems and fragmented information can increase stress in already critical situations. Since then, I have focused on healthcare, elderly users, and high-stakes interaction scenarios where clarity and reliability are essential.
In the summer of 2023, I interned at Tencent, contributing to Tencent Meeting. During this time, I supported user research, problem analysis, and product iteration processes. Working in a large-scale, real-world product environment strengthened my ability to systematically analyze user pain points and translate research insights into practical design improvements. It also deepened my understanding of collaboration across design, product, and engineering teams in a fast-paced commercial setting.
I have a background in engineering thinking, game design, and interaction design, and I can work well in interdisciplinary teams while working independently from concept to implementation. To build experiences that are not just considerate and sympathetic but also practical, scalable, and beneficial in real-world situations, I approach design as a balance between humanistic care and logical analysis.
